Engagement Party Dress

My parents are throwing an engagement party for my fiance and I in a few weeks and I needed a cute party dress to wear so I went into my stash bin and pulled out this paint print stretch of unknown fibers that I bought at JoAnn in the fall.  I looked through my patterns and couldn’t find anything that was suitable for the party or the amount of fabric I had on hand.

I turned to Burdastyle and used the contour bust dress pattern.  The pattern is for the top of the dress and it has instructions for a skirt but I didn’t follow it.  Instead I cut the 60″ wide fabric in half, then cut one of the halves in half, leaving me with 3 pieces.  I then pleated the pieces to match up with the width of the piece they would go below.  I stitched the skirt together and attached it to the bodice.  I didn’t use a zipper because the fabric stretches.  I added grey grosgrain ribbon for straps that criss-cross in the back about 1″ from the center back seam.

I’ve made another top in white cotton that I might wear for engagement photos, but I haven’t decided on what to do for the skirt.  I don’t want to do the same skirt and I can’t decide what amount of *POUF* I want for this skirt.
