I put off the February item for the Craft Book Challenge because I wanted to sew something from Sew U Homestretch and I wanted to use my serger. After a few other little projects and experiments on the serger I felt comfortable using it for this project.
I made the plain crew neck t-shirt out of a green crinkle knit that a friend got me for my bday. The edges are just overlocked, the book has instructions for overlocking, coverstitching, rolled hemming and using a rib knit for the edges. I would love to use rib knit eventually but it is difficult to find in fabric stores, most of them have black and white and bright basic colors but not much else.
I made the extra small and I think it fits pretty well. I probably won’t make this again because I don’t wear crew neck t-shirts. I’m more of a v-neck kind of girl, I made this version to get the basics down before moving on the altering the pattern (and because I ran out of tracing paper and I haven’t bought another roll), the book includes the basic patterns for a crew neck, raglan, and a dress, then instructions to alter the patterns for variations. The variation I’m most excited about making in the near future is the boatneck t-shirt. I love boatneck t’s and I can’t seem to find them in the colors and prints that I want.
Up next month will be something from One-Piece Wearables!
